Biomedical Informatics (BMI) is the emerging discipline that straddles over the twin area of Clinical Informatics and Bioinformatics. This young, speciality hopes to develop innovative new approaches for the intigration of clinical data with the rapidly widening horizons of Genomics, Proteomics, Transcriptomics and Metabolomics. The objective is to use these approaches to develop new diagnostic tools and treatment modalities that will lead to improving the health of the ordinary person

Biomedical Informatics Centre at Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute , Lucknow is among one of the eight biomedical informatics  centers established by ICMR.The institute has fully equipped labs like immunology, genetics, neurology, pathology, microbiology in which various R & D programs are going on. The Centre has taken initiative in manpower development in bioinformatics with the support from Indian Council of Medical Research and Department of Biotechnology, New Delhi.

The centre has been providing computational facilities, bibliographic searches, bioinformatics related services to its users. More than 50 regular users from various department of SGPGIMS and near by universities has been using this facility.
